Subject: The second season of "Numb3rs"

I was impressed by the first few eps of "Numb3rs" last season, but the show went downhill fast, IMHO, so I'm not sure that I'll be watching it when it starts back up in September.
Basically, during the first few eps, the show seemed to be a cross between "The X-Files" (my all-time favorite TV show) and "A Beautiful Mind" (one of my fave movies). It had a pair of male-and-female FBI agents (like in XF) working with a pair of male-and-female mathematicians (like in ABM). However, during the last few eps of the first season, the female FBI agent was apparently written out of the series and the role of the female mathematician was downplayed. It was starting to remind me of one of those 60s shows like "Bonanza" or "Hawaii 5-0" where all the main characters were men. I'm sure there are people out there who enjoy those sorts of shows, but they're really not my cup of tea. I like shows with strong women characters (i.e. Scully on XF, Mac on JAG, etc.).
The other thing that REALLY perturbed me was that although the female FBI agent was *apparently* written out of the show, there was no explanation ever given as to what had happned with the character. She'd been pretty prominent in the early eps and was referred to as the male agent's partner. Suddenly she just wasn't around and there was never so much as a single line in any episode as to what had happened to her; they didn't bother to say she'd been transferred, had been killed in the line of duty, had quit the FBI or anything. I guess the producers thought their audience consisted of a bunch of idiots who simply "wouldn't notice" that the lead actress had left the series.
