They went back or forward in time, they are in another dimension & others including even a polar bear have been swept into, they are in the middle of some secret government thing, or all of the above.

The mean, scruffy guy looked like he was reading a dear John letter on the beach. Terry O'Quinn was on the plane, saw him seated in one of the flashbacks. He might be some kind of special ops guys, maybe he even knows what the island is. The marshall seemed to sympathize with Kate, maybe she's charged with some kind of financial rip off & not something bad like murder. I doubt Sayed will turn out to be bad since we have to be PC but he was in the Republican Guard? He saw war crimes at least if he didn't do them himself.
I'm hooked but just worry about how long it can take this. I've read season 1 will cover the first 40 days they are on the island.
