Thought you guys would be interested in Coach Cooley's comments about Canisius this upcoming season ( Interview in Connecticut Post ) :
Q:Talk about the league. How's the MAAC going to be?
Cooley: "The MAAC is going to be tough. Siena is head and shoulders above the league. They have everyone returning. Niagara had a couple of guys sitting out and they've got an all-conference player (Tyrone Lewis) returning. Rider has a good group of guys back. The guy they lost (Jason Thompson) went No. 12 in the (NBA) draft, so they'll be very competitive. Iona has a lot of young kids but (coach Kevin Willard) recruited well. I feel the sleeper of the league is going to be Canisius. I know they are. They have a very good point guard in (Frank) Turner. It's going to be interesting."

Thanks Truthful, sleeper we will see. I think the most of us here are conservative on the Griffs. It depends on Frank & how far the Soph move their game up. If they step up; we will surprise some people.

Nice to see SOMEONE who thinks this season's Griffs might just be a challenge in the MAAC. Of course, Ed Cooley saw our kids' best effort of last season in our 28 pt win at Koessler.
The key is to develop some consistent outside shooters to take pressure off our big men inside and Frankie at the point. If Brett Chance can develop, fine, but that's a long shot for next season. Willie is wildly inconsistent, and Frazier needs heavy remedial work on his outside shot.
We need our coaches to do some hard work with these kids on their technique, just as Beilein did with Barley, Thompson etc. Kids CAN learn to shoot.

Easy to understand why the Griffs can be looked upon as a sleeper this season. Simmons, Logan, and Frazier are now sophomores. They are a little bigger, stronger, experienced and most importantly relaxed and fans will notice this immediately. If these guys can turn it up a notch, without question, CC will be heard from in the MAAC. I also think Hassel will surprise this year. Remember for much of last season he was playing ill.It's going to be exciting and fun this year. Go Griffs!!!

A true definition of a recruit is the leap they make from their Frosh to Sophmore year. Look at the success that Siena & Niagara have enjoyed by having their players make these jumps.
