Subject: Reggie took his jacket off too late!

I couldn't understand what took Reggie so long to take off his jacket. He waited until the last 5 minutes of the game watching a 12 point lead evaporate into a 12 point deficit. Once the jacket came off he realized that he sat White and Hitchon for most of the first half while Faulkner, Lott, and Sanks made the offense and defense click. Reggie took the jacket, White, and Hitchon out of the game way too late. The guy has about as much emotion as a Budist monk. The only one he yells at is the assistant coach who happens to be sitting next to him on his right. His attitude reflects the emotion of his team flat and uninspiring. This team is just going through the motions. I wasted $20 last night.

13 second half turnovers lost the game. Fredrick Scott barely played the first half. 2 guys taking over half the teams shots looking for each other, equals easy to beat, easy to defend and force T.O's. Need to play as a team or it will be a long season.

While fair weather fans complain about coaching, time out, and players flexing, the true students of the game understand what is going on here and appreciate reggie's coaching and player development. Reggie has a great national reputation because he coaches for long term success instead of the ephemeral gains from a win here and there. He has always been criticized by the novices of time management but I like the way he lets players play through tough stretches knowing that it will benefit them down the road. Just think about how much the players learned from losing the lead and eventually the game. That experience will pay dividends down the road and earn many more victories in the future. tough losses also develop leadership. Let's stop going overboard with criticism after avery loss and wait to see how the season turns out. We were in first place until this last loss. You can't expect perfection every game. i still like how the young players are developing and think we will have a very good year.

That’s what we said about three other coaches at Canisius, they were wonderful people and losing builds character. Let’s see how much character building was developed by these three outstanding coaches:
Mike McDonald 153 losses .414 Winning percentage
Tom Parrotta 121 losses .346 Winning percentage
Marty Marbach 94 losses .343 Winning percentage.

The Canisius basketball team has built a lot of character over the years with those 368 losses in 20 seasons. I guess we owe it to Reggie to let him build a winning program no matter how many seasons or losses it takes. What was the schools tag line a few years ago, “Where leaders are made.”

That kind of thinking about building character around losing reminds me of when President Truman fired General Douglas MacArthur for wanting to go on the offensive during the Korea War and MacArthur’s reply to the firing by stating “Because there is no substitute for victory.”

MacArthur was an arrogant moron who endorsed the use of nuclear weapons in Korea. If MacArthur got his way, the world would have devolved into chaos and violence.

Literally stop. This man has had tons of talent to coach and he’s been wasting it. He’s most certainly not developing the young talent either. It’s time he started acting like the coach we hired to win us a championship.

I do not believe any of this. What young players is he developing?None of our recruiting class are good enough to even get off the bench except Henderson for a couple of minutes a game. The assistant coaches walk around with their hands in their pockets during timeouts while Reggie argues with the refs. It would not be so bad if any of them could recruit some decent D1 caliber players. We specialize in projects and players no one else is recruiting. The results , or lack thereof, speak volumes about the state of this program. It is no longer even entertaining to watch this mess.

"Ephemeral gains from a win here and there"? Give me a friggin' break, guy.

What's really scary is the 4 new guys, supposedly building blocks for the future, and just how little they've contributed this year. They offer no hope, and yet they're right in our face every time we open this board, as if to mock us.

^^^ What a clown...long term success and Reggie???

C’mon MAN!!!

Go look at his UB years, the guy coaches to prove a point, not improve the players. He hasn’t made it through March successfully in his career yet! He is just about equal to Tommy P, recruits well, then is lost once the game actually begins. The only difference is Tommy was a better recruiter!

Can’t wait for this contract to end...Reggie is wasting this team’s talent. The rotations he uses are absolutely baffling!

You sir have been fleeced by Reggie’s charm. He actually is a nice guy, and great for the community, but the man is not a winner. We are so desperate to try to show the program is successful that we put up meaningless banners that cross between tournament wins and placing 1st in the conference. Glad we also put up banners for CBI and CIT...which we pay to get into!!!

As a UB fan I was as frustrated by Reggies performance as most, that being said.

He took a program that knew nothing but loosing, and was under sanctions, and turned it into a regular top3 MAC hoops team. He did it on about the smallest budget in the conference and he did it without *1* serious scandal.

I look at UB today and see that Hurley/Oats built took on a program that had three 20 win seasons in Spoons last five years.

He's walked into a buzzsaw at Canisius because of where Jim Baron left the program and he's already tied you for the regular season MAAC title and given you a 21 win season.

Is Witherspoon going to be the guy to get you back to the dance? History says no, but he will get the programs foundations laid for some fun basketball if you give him some time. Heck he already has the best record going back to John Beilein.

This team, pretty much the exact same team as last year minus Crumpton (who Reggie apologists would make you believe was terrible before Reggie arrived) has DRASTICALLY underperformed.

And it's not just guys not performing. Last night, they looked surprised to see Rider press. The substitutions and lineups have been absolutely terrible at times. If this next recruiting class isn't stellar, and/or Canisius doesn't go to the NCAA tournament before Malik and Reese graduate, the Griffs need to move on from Reggie.

Agree but we need more from everyone. Last year we won several games because of our bench. Our bench hasn’t done much and we need to stop repeating the same mistakes. You never want to lose games at home; it took us almost 10 years to win a game at Rider. Let’s beat Iona and I hope we played pissed against Quinny (remember last March). Go Griffs!

His apologists are just that. He has never won a thing. His teams chronically underperform. If I know what they are going to do, everyone else does too.

Not sure about Reggie but Dugout Doug MacArthur's performance in the Korean War is not a good analogy.

His performance in Korea ranks alongside Ambrose Burnside or the other poor generals of the Civil War.

Ignored his intelligence and totally misjudged the timing and extend of China's involvement; overextended his lines and divided his forces in northern North Korea, and led to the needless deaths of thousands of US soldiers in a vain quest for glory when he should have stopped at the 38th parallel.

MacArthur did not spend one night in Korea while he commanded the US forces there. Matt Ridgeway saved our bacon with one of the greatest displays of generalship in the 20th century.

No Canisius College men’s Coach has an overall winning percentage over .600 since either scandal plagued John Morrison or whoever coached in the 1950s. John Beilein? He has recorded roughly a .640 winning percentage everywhere he’s coached. Except for Canisius. The Reggie detractors have to get a grip. Canisius is a horrible basketball school. Now that UB has completely overshadowed the Griffs, the future is bleaker than it ever has been. I indeed wonder whether the college will even be open in 20 years.

@ubbullrun You have lost your mind. Reggie has absolutely PISSED AWAY this season. He's more concerned about being seen, saying he coach's college hoops, and screaming at officials than anything else. GROW UP.
