Subject: Players' Improvements needed for next season

Putting this disappointing season behind , here is a list of suggested homework for our returning players to work on in the offseason

Takal--- To reach his high potential, Takal needs to perfect his shooting touch and improve his ball handling skills. His outside shot requires retooling as his arc is way too high and the rotation is erratic. Improveding his handle will give him more confidence to drive to the hoop without fear of losing control,

Scott and Jalanni--- Both need to hit the weight room with a vengeance and to learn how to rebound. They need a tutorial on positioning, boxing out and crashing the boards on every possession. Watching a Larry Bird video would show them that leaping higher than opponents is not as important as these other factors. And both need to learn how to defend in the post.

Gianni Ford and Ivan Hadzic--- Ford's stats from the past show he is a poor outside shooter, so it's critical that he get help retooling his shot. Ivan must build needed muscle and learn to use his size to advantage.

Sam Rautins and Henderson-- both need to learn how to create space for their outside shots off the dribble. Rautins is dead on during warm ups but was unable to get any open shots during his brief time on the floor.

Malik--- Continue working on his 3pt and midrange shootin.

Dantai-- Needs 2 total hand transplants.

Malik-- Continue working on both his 3 pt and midrange shooting.

Coaches: Need to take courses on salesmanship so we can actually sign some talented kids and not just settle for leftovers. Focus on under the radar kids in Upstate NY and NYC , not projects from the Deep South.

The player development will only materialize if the coaches work these kids. For me, I'm not sold on this coaching staff. They don't seem to be too focused on making our environment (Koessler) or building relationships with those who care about the program. It would be great if they thought about conducting a Midnight Madness or something to drive engagement vs. just going through the motions. At times when you looked at the coaching bench, the entire group looked like they really didn't care. The post-press conferences we're not so great. They need to remember the ABC rule, on and off the court. ALWAYS BE CLOSING; you never know what did decides to lean our way vs. going elsewhere. Go Griffs!

As to player development Reggie seems to be doing a good job. Exhibit One would be Jermaine Crumptons' development into the POY he became in his two years with Reggie as his coach. Scott made great strides as a Sophomore IMO as did Jalanni (later in the season). I agree both need work with the strength and nutrition coach during the off season. They also need to improve their defense and their rebounding skills. Don't under estimate Ivan, he has some promising skills and size. With a dedicated off season he could achieve a prominent role IMO. The coaches job is not to improve the "environment" in the KAC beyond producing a well coached team. That issue needs to be addressed across the Canisius population-student leadership, alumni, athletic dept.,etc. Certainly the coaching staff needs to have good relations with all of the above, but a winning (and watchable) team is their job first and foremost. Recruiting and player development are part of that. Enthusiastic and outgoing personalities are also necessary parts of the package. That's different from back slapping and schmoozing. How about "some of the above" getting going on the post season banquet, if it's not already being enthusiastically planned. Don't miss this mornings' Buffalo Snooze article by Mike Harrington! Don't we all want to be part of that? Any volunteers? How about the Athletics Dept. putting up a site or link where we can sign up with our real names and get the show on road with some man and woman power?

Yikes! I just glanced at the on line edition of the Buffalo News. This one is different.
