Good luck to him. Just sorry he and we both missed out on what should have been a great final season.

I didn’t know they played professional basketball in the Czech Republic, oh wait Reese is talking about the NBA. Another memorable moment from this season. Thank God it’s over.

I wish him luck, but his performance against the guards of the really good teams we played early in the season was not impressive. He was invisible.? NBA. He will likely play in Europe .

Sad. I doubt he's earned enough credits to get his degree, and a transfer would have allowed for that prospect.

What a terrible decision by Isaiah. He earns a suspension for “conduct detrimental to the team”. He played with an attitude, far below last year’s level ,after being named pre season MAAC player of the year ,and then sacrifices his college education, How has he helped himself? He seems to be a very confused young man. I wish him well.

How do you know that Reggie and others didn't try to help the young man? It looks like this post is just a cheap shot at Reggie.

Who knows? The coaches could have been working with him all year, and the Niagara blow up may have been the last straw. In any event, he is gone. He has given up on college, and pursuing pro ball. Go Griffs.

This is when you would hope coaches would step in and show leadership and get it figured out. Unfortunately this is an area we are significantly lacking.

Last I checked Empire State College isn’t “where leaders are made”

It's not fair to put all of the blame on the coaches in this situation. This is a young adult, making a choice. You can only try to influence so much, if he had these beliefs that he was going to the NBA-there may have been no changing it. And based off of how he played and how things went down, he seemed to be in that mindset.

I question whether Reece will land a job in Europe. The competition for jobs over there is intense. Remember Phil Valenti was never signed, and Phil was an excellent college player. Why people blame the coaches for Reece's situation is a mystery. The guy announces that he is leaving the program at the end of the season, and you wonder why he was shown the door.

I've wondered the same thing about coach involvement. More so now, since it appears that he is not transferring to another university. You would hope that someone at Canisius could reinforce how short sighted his decision is.

I’m sure he can pick up a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Empire State. Can’t need many credits for that.

What do you know about Empire State College? Apparently you think it is some fly-by-night operation rather than part of the SUNY system with many successful alumni. You and some other poster (maybe you under another handle) think you are mocking Reggie. That says a lot about you.

They stay for a bit and then look to move on. Zach, Kassius, Isaiah and dare to take a guess who will be next? Wake up Griff fans, this is an issue.

Let's see. Zach Lewis was dismissed from his high school team in 2012. After his sophomore season at CC in 2015 he transferred to UMass to seek a higher level of competition. After playing one season there he transferred to Iona (to seek a lower level of competition?). Kassius Robertson had a solid career at CC.He red shirted in his freshman year to develop as a player. He went on to a very productive playing career as a Griff. He also graduated. He had one year of eligibility left and chose to use at the University of Missouri, where he had another solid season as a graduate transfer. That's what quite a number of athletes do these days when NCAA rules allow transfer without sitting out a year to students who have received their degree and have eligibility remaining. A couple of UB football players chose to do that recently. As to Isaiah Reese something beyond playing college basketball seems to have been a factor in his situation. These three case you cite are all different from each other, these things happen at other schools also. CC can be proud of the many highly accomplished basketball players who had full and fulfilling careers on the court and in the classroom. Take a look around the Hall of Fame area at KAC and you'll see some of them. The sky is not falling.

What role should a coach have in retaining their student-athletes?
