Subject: Random Thoughts

Some thoughts while hoping there is some uplifting news on Canisius basketball during upcoming recruiting period :

-Much improved play of White was lost at end of season, if he continues improvement into next year he could be a real surprise player, his physical skills/length are there at top level of league;

-Johnson was forced to try to do too much as year went on which may have restricted his playmaking, scoring became a necessity for him which has not been his normal game, he certainly can be a scorer but we need him to do so much it would be better if he was not main option;

- We will need some level of contributions from Bird and Routins next year unless recruits bring scoring to team, hopefully they are ready;

- Not sure about our heavy recruiting in Georgia and south at least according to what is posted on recruiting site, not sure results so far justify efforts and time apparently being put in;

-Despite what Niagara fans thought of Casey's coaching, he recruited New York city area very well, we should
learn something from his success there;

-Iona's success in Maac tournament is a credit to their coaching philosophy, they have regular player departures but are constantly able to fill in new players, it's like their team is built for tournament success;

_ the fact that Buffalo News put two articles on UB vacancy above Niagara hire shows where power is now situated in college sports here;

-Will be interesting to see where Molson ends up, despite his scoring average he did not have a great year in my view, shot generally looked off, maybe he was also asked to do too much but not sure about his commitment to a team first mentality;

-Assume we will bring in some JC players, better hope they are ready to play immediately which has not been our history with recent JC players.

Good points all.

I too am baffled by our coaches' obsession with trolling for kids in the Deep South., neglecting under recruited talent In Rochester, Buffalo and downstate. The Albany City Rocks AAU team is always stocked with upstate talent, but we look for kids a thousand miles away in a different environment.

Watching the NCAA tourney, it is clear that mid majors can build winning programs with kids who can shoot the rock and share the ball. Let's hope we can make some good decisions in filling the several open slots.

I have zero confidence they will sign any players ready to contribute next season, be they JC or incoming freshmen. As usual, we will get leftovers no one else recruited, who will be our next group of projects/red shirts. When I think of next year’s lineup and rotation, it is scary! The half empty Koessler will progress to mostly empty. When was the last time there was ANY news/reason for excitement,? Depressing.
