Stop all the bull about Molson & Reese having bad years because they looked at comming out for the NBA.Reggie caused all the problems when he set up last years early games against teams the Griffs weren't ready to go against.I believe he want'ed to show U.B.he could still coach and recruit,by putting a team he tought he had against those teams and competeing.Well we know how it turned out, after he was embarrassed he took it out on Reese who probably told him you put us in this fix don't take it out on me,he left than Molson became the next one up.Johnson is the one player that knows the true story maybe he talk after this year.

I am typically the first to place blame on the staff, but this post is absolutely absurd...

What does the UB game have to do with anything? We have literally played them and Bona every season as long as I can remember. So to say that was a setup is crazy.

I think Reese was influenced by what he heard at or after the NBA draft process, but this whole premise of either of those items being Reggie’s doing seems crazy.

This is a different day and age when it comes to Mid-Major (especially lower) teams across the country. They try to set up these kids for success to graduate early, and most times Master's degree's within a 4 year span-this sets everyone up to be able to transfer before their 4-year career is up. From an outside perspective-I saw a guy who had NBA aspirations who wasn't playing very well. I'm sure he was getting some heat from the coaching staff, he had expectations of being Player of the Year and was trying to go to the NBA. I think coaches around the country have to try to plan what they will/would do if better players leave because if they think they can take the next step, they will leave. As for the scheduling-they tied for 1st the year before and had almost all their key parts coming back for the following year-any coach would try to step up the OOC schedules and try to get in better tournaments to better suit themselves for the year. The fact that they laid an egg was absolutely a disappointment, but going and playing in a tournament of junk teams (especially if they didn't win), would have been no better. I think it is fair to have expectations of a Coaching staff and not like how closed off from the alumni they are, but to completely blame them for 2 of the best players to leave when they already seemed to have their eyes on bigger and better things is absurd.

Old Griff, I think that mean teacher in your one-room school house whacked you too hard with the ruler back in the day!

The MAAC can't exactly dictate but they can strongly encourage a team to attend their annual 0-3 Classic. It was Canisius' turn and the MAAC paid for it. So I don't hold that against Coach Witherspoon or the administration, etc.

What is frustrating is what appears to be an inability to manage strong personalites: Valenti, Crumpton, Robertson, Reese, Molson. These guys all had issues with this coaching staff. Yes, the college basketball landscape has changed drastically thanks to lax transfer rules, but Iona has turned those rules into a godsend. No one in the MAAC seems to lost the talent Canisius has lost. That has to improve.

Before the FSU and tournament games the Griffs played a home game against Albany. They lost what should have been a comfortable W. I think anyone who watched that game knew something was wrong with the team. Whether that was due to coaching or to the attitude of a player or players, we don't know. But that game was pretty much the story of the season IMO. There was no post season banquet, but we are told there will be a preseason social event. Are the powers that be hoping to start with a clean slate and a fresh outlook?

One thing I do know is that Isiah Reese was virtually invisible against FS and the other good teams they played early in the year. Talk about a rude awakening. NBA? Seriously??? Work on your game at Canisius and hope you can catch on in Europe somewhere. I am sure the NBA teams he tried out for told him in no uncertain terms what he needed to work on to have any shot at all to play professionally at any level.

Old Griff Fan: Why don’t you and Argo Guthrie write a protest song about how Reggie has tarnished the Griff’s Basketball reputation...the win ratio of 50% (at best) over the past 50 years belies your moaning. Reggie is no worse than ANY coach Canisius has had with the exception of John Beilein.
