Witherspoon to Participate in Coaches vs. Cancer Tip-Off Event

Canisius head men's basketball coach Reggie Witherspoon will join other Big 4 basketball head coaches and the local community at the American Cancer Society's Coaches vs. Cancer Tip-Off Happy Hour, set for Tuesday, Sept. 17 at the Hotel at The Lafayette in downtown Buffalo. The event is scheduled to run from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m.

"Coaches vs. Cancer gives sports fans the chance to back their team and to attack cancer," JoAnna Jacob, executive director for the American Cancer Society's Upstate New York area, said. "Sports fans are passionate, and through initiatives like this, we are channeling that drive into fun, yet meaningful, ways to help end the pain and suffering of cancer. We are excited to work with the local schools and local coaches because it makes a real difference every day in the lives of our neighbors, and people everywhere, touched by cancer."

The Canisius men's basketball program has been active in working with the American Cancer Society's Coaches vs. Cancer program in the three previous seasons under Witherspoon, as the Golden Griffins have taken part in the annual 3-Point Challenge.

Tickets for the event on Sept. 17 are on sale now through the American Cancer Society's website. For sponsorship inquires, tickets, or questions regarding this event, please contact Joe LaVare, 716-689-6982, ext. 65250, or via email - Joe.LaVare@cancer.org.
