Subject: Just my opinion

I don’t pretend to be any kind of college basketball coach. But I’ve studied the statistics, watched this team play many games, focused on players, and given this a lot of thought. We have some really good players. Could we be running different offensive and defensive sets that better match the skills and personalities of our current student athletes?
Also, someone posted that we develop players. If that’s so, please explain why Jelani White isn’t any better than his freshman year. Malik is a lot better, Scott Hitchon has improved some - is that coaching or individual player development.
Like a lot of other fans, I feel we are right back where we were in the Parrotta days. And that’s not a good feeling.

I'm kind of in the same boat as CNY Griff. I posted that our players have gotten better as they advanced at CC. I'd like to think coaching has something to do with that, but I can't prove it. Maybe it's just the athletes themselves. I think JW is much better than his freshman year, for example. As is SH. IMO, and I agree with CNY, the sets do not match the skill sets on the team. I think, for example, Ivan Hadzic has improved to the point where he could help a lot inside with more playing time and some sets designed for him.

Please. Playing Hadzic more is not the answer. Sets designed for him? He's beyond limited.

IMO he does not fall into the "Stiff" category. In the off season he dropped some excess weight and looks like a much better conditioned athlete. At the McMaster open scrimmage I thought that was apparent. So did the guy sitting next to me who seemed to know "a thing or two about a thing or two" about basketball. He could be some help off the bench in developing an inside game which the Griffs are in very short supply on now. Those occasions might help the outside game which seems to have fallen upon hard times as "the house that Jack built", (pun intended). The Griffs are losing winnable games by jacking up threes that don't go in. Might as well try something new.

Or limit certain players to a certain amount of 3pt shots per game if they aren't falling. You can't keep firing up shots from 3, after say 5, 6 or 7 misses in a row, in the same game by the same guy. Maybe go for some assists at that point, or drive the basket and draw a foul. We have capable 3 point shooters but they aren't taking the most 3's per game. Hopefully Rautins will be back soon also, he seems to be capable of making 3's. Need Henderson and Hitchon to get healthy and stay that way, Or it's going to be a long season. Hadzic has some potential on the inside IMO. Go Griffs!

We need a person or combination that scores 8 to 10 points per game, plays above average defense, and has reasonable turnover numbers. One additional player, not a superstar or all conference, could have transformed some losses into wins. It is quite unrealistic to think that the freshmen would play at a very high level this year. I see no overwhelming case for a coach change. These are 2 stars for the most part. Our recruiting seeks under-the-radar men who might develop well.
