SIEM UIJTENDAAL

For those who don't speak Dutch, a rough translation below -

Siem Uijtendaal was named sportsman of that year in a packed Thalia Theater during the Sports Gala 2019 of the municipality of Velsen. An honorable prize for the 18-year-old basketball player, who lives in Velserbroek with his parents and sister Blanca. "It was cool when my name appeared on the screen. But, I had already taken into account that I could win. ”

Incidentally, Uijtendaal, who had been playing with Akrides for three years and moved to Apollo in Amsterdam when he was twelve, had not made much difference at the prize-giving ceremony. Because the shooting guard of 1.96 meters initially did not get permission from his trainer at Apollo, with whom he plays in the Dutch Basketball League. "We had a packed schedule with important matches and he wanted me to take my rest on that Friday. Suddenly he turned around and I still got permission to go to the gala. I suspect my mother played a role in this. ”

The fact that Uijtendaal, who is trying to get his diploma at the gymnasium, can play well has now also spread to clubs from the NBA and universities in America. “Information about me is regularly sent in that direction via a contact person in the Netherlands with a large international network. Usually these are videos with highlights from competitions. Between the beginning of April and the end of May, coaches there are involved in scouting and it becomes clear whether there is room for me somewhere. ”

He hopes for an invitation from a university where high-quality studies are possible and where top-level basketball is played. "The sport is by far the most important to me. It has been a dream since my youngest childhood to start walking that way. ” He has now been to the States three times. “I have visited a number of universities, stadiums and clubs and was impressed by the facilities and greatness. No, I don't have a preference for a particular location. ”

If everything goes as hoped in the coming months, Uijtendaal will confidently embark on the adventure on the other side of the ocean, thousands of kilometers from home. "I'm not afraid of homesickness. I'm sure I'm going to make it. Whether I can cook? Well, making a paste will work. That also happens to be my favorite food, so that's good. ”

In the meantime, he is enjoying the gala in the Thalia Theater. "The framed jury report will hang in the hallway at home. The statue I got, called "Mystic Lamb", has already been placed in a cupboard in the living room. "

IMO lots of promise. I hope CC will be able to have a summer session and that Siem will be there. He appears to be a sound student. As for hoops; summer goals in Buffalo- add a solid 10 lbs., work hard against sound defensive players, and continue the hard work you've obviously become dedicated to. Welcome to Buffalo, Siem. Now we have a second "Dutch Treat".

You can thank Kevin Bleeker. Not sure our current staff knows how to go East on the thruway.

fyi Bleeker isn’t the one who turned the coaching staff onto Jacco, it was the coach at DME as a makeup for Reese’s debacle

Not to be overly picky, but isn't Utica east on the Thruway? I am optimistic (tending towards cautiously so) about both recruits so far. I would like to see more engagement and enthusiasm from the coaching staff in general, however.

Are you referring to Monroe CC? Isn't that downstate, somewhere in or about the NYC area? Are there two JC's by the same name? I'm just glad we have him. Either way it's East on the Thruway.

There is a Monroe CC in NYC but Majesty went to Monroe CC in Rochester.

I highly doubt that the leading scorer who had a really nice year and who this staff gave a chance to, would leave prior to his senior season. Come on man!

I liked that the video was from the same game, which still (of course) had his best offensive plays (which begs the question - does he play defense? Just sayin). Far better than the cherry-picked videos of other players that feature moves from dozens of games!

And don't count out skinny Euros just because they're skinny Euros. They can bring (and have brought) valuable new dimensions to the American game. There are many examples of successful players, but for one of the current ones: Exhibit A: Check out Syracuse.
