I have not heard that rumor, but I'd be shocked it more programs across athletics are not impacted. Look at the news out of Furman today: https://www.thestate.com/sports/college/article242819861.html

That said, I would think basketball would be among the final cuts, it would make sense to reclassify if it saves the school money.

Perhaps the plan could be to follow the RIT model and maintain a D1 hockey team and downgrade all other sports to D3/non-scholarship. Not sure if that would require launching a women's ice hockey team in order to abide by Title IX standards.

I'd much rather maintain D1 basketball and downgrade hockey.

Agreed, but not sure what NCAA rules will allow. I have never seen a school just maintain basketball at the D1 level and all other sports D3, but we are in a new landscape here.

The school is about the same size as us. Their endowment is also 7 times our size.

I could be wrong, but I think the 'basic' rule is...
if you have DI basketball OR Football, all other sports have to be DI as well.

Not sure what the rules are, but there are a handful of schools that have D1 hockey and are DIII for all other sports. If CC decides to go D3, I would hope they at least maintain hockey as D1.
