Subject: malik brooks

i never heard of him, never saw him play, did not know one thing about him, however after he committed i researched him and found out he was all wny in football, 3rd team all wny in bball averaging 25ppg, and a great track athlete, and a long time ago an athlete went to a local div 3 school to play soccer, and somehow he ended up playing bball there and through his 4 years there played very well, and because the braves were here, probably as a pr stunt they gave him a chance that nobody in their right mind thought would work out, lo and behold i believe he became a nba all star, randy smith, i am in no way even suggesting brooks could be that good, however he has a phenomenal athletic pedigree and one can hope, and of course he could be a typical walk-on and never see the light of day, who knows

Randy had amazing athletic skill sets that, when packaged in one man, made him especially outstanding in basketball. He played soccer in the fall, not American football. In track and field he was a sprinter and excelled in all three jumping events, especially the triple jump. To be as good as he was at the TJ a man had to be sort of like Ginger Rogers was to Fred Astaire ( she did everything he did, but backwards and in heels). I think the footwork in soccer and in the TJ.provided him with superior footwork on the basketball court that made him an NBA star.

When Randy was a senior at a Bellport HS. The NYS HS track championships were held at Buff State and he was THE star of that meet. Then as a basketball player at Buff State he was All Conference 3 times. Without question he was one of the best pure athletes ever!

I played vs. Randy on the freshman team. He was a dominant force in the pant with his leaping ability, strength and athleticism. Had a great career at Buff State but had no outside shot .he did have explosive speed ala Russell Westbrook. While riding the bench for a couple seasons with the Braves, he developed a great outside shot, virtually unstoppable due to his great lift. He then went on to become a great NBA guard and all star. A great story.

Randy Smith never “rode the bench” with the Braves. He started as a rookie and averaged over 13 points per game!
