Subject: Correlation between Sabres and Griffs Hockey

An interesting point was brought up in a recent conversation I had with a fellow alumnus. The Sabres struggle over the last decade has killed the momentum of Griffs hockey at HC. If the Sabres become Stanley Cup contenders the price of a ticket in the last row for a NHL game would be around $50 for a game against a bottom of the league team (thinking Arizona). Since the opening of HC hockey fans in Buffalo are able to get a ticket to an NHL game for sometimes as low as $5 to get in the building. This destroys the market Canisius hockey is going after at the reasonable price for a family to watch DI hockey. If the Sabres are good and the price for a ticket goes into the $50 range Canisius will thrive in ticket sales as the hockey nuts of WNY want to watch live hockey at an affordable price. When a hockey fan with no connection to CC can go to an NHL game (no matter how terrible the First Niagara Center is, it’s still pro hockey) for less money to get in the door that destroy Canisius’ market that they are targeting for a nice affordable weekend activity for families as well as hockey fans. Thanks for the Harbor Center Kim and Terry but get a better hockey team for Griff’s sake!
