Amazing that we've only won 1 MAAC Basketball championship. Thank God for Beilein and the Baron years. We stuck too long with Mike hoping that he would be the guy and Parrotta could recruit but couldn't get it done. And now here we are.

I disagree with your statement that we stuck too long with MacDoald. What we did was wait too long to increase Asst. Coaches salaries and the recruiting budget. Both of those increased significantly when Parrotta arrived. Mike MacDonald has proven he can coach.

I like Mike but come on he struggled. I watched too many MAAC games that we lost due to his coaching & poor substitutions. This current crew is going down the same path. One more year.

I want to see a larger investment in the basketball program - make it easier for the coaching staff to be successful and make the program more enticing. Marketing + alumni / student engagement. Create atmosphere at games!

We need to get back to those winning ways.

I am very encouraged to see the recent accolades about Jimmy Baron. He gave us 20+ win seasons and a high major son we would have otherwise had zero chance of landing. I mean, what's not to like? That was a very exciting time just a few years ago and I love the memories!

I agree with Larry The years Baron played here were very exciting.I also agree with CNY GRIFF Coach Mac got a lot out of a team that was out matched in a lot of games and yet we stayed in till the end.I also think the out of conference teams he played were a lot tougher than the teams that we play now.Do your remember when St. Joe's came in with there high ranking and we played them to the end.He also recruited well in W.N.Y.

[> Re: Griffs 40th Anniversary Team -- The problem with Coach Baron..., Wed, July 08 2020, 10:19:32

Year 1: 20-14; lost in MAAC quarterfinals
Year 2: 21–13; lost in MAAC semifinals
Year 3: 18–14; lost in MAAC quarterfinals
Year 4: 14–19; lost in MAAC quarterfinals

There was a drop-off after Billy Baron left and couldn't break into the MAAC finals with the most-talented lineup Canisius had in a very long time (2012-2013).

He also left an incredibly inopportune time. I'm happy Baron rebuilt the program, but he didn't leave the program in great condition for Coach Witherspoon.
