Subject: CC sells Florida Avenue duplexes

Good deal for the East side and for the college. These apparently had fallen into disrepair lately.

We held on to those houses for years so we could expand out Koessler or Health Science footprint.

I was always hoping that all of those houses on Florida St. would someday come down, and the athletic field could be expanded to include a track. I always felt sorry for the baseball players who had to retrieve foul balls from the back yards of those houses. I think selling the houses the college owns is a big mistake. Go Griffs!!

On the other hand, if whatever is left in the E.Delevan/ Jefferson science building is moved to Science Hall (if it's ever finished), and R.O.T.C. gets a new home and the College can acquire whatever the brick structure on the parking lot is, there will still be a significant parcel for development after some demolition. But the way things are going there these days all we can do is hope for the best.

By the way, my niece who visited CC last week visited John Carroll today. Reports are she loved it. I've been there and I can't blame her, it's a beautiful campus. CC has lots of catching up to do.

JCU is just Canisius if it abandoned its city and built a new campus in Williamsville.

Canisius could use being in the center of a vibrant city to her advantage, if only she could get her act together. The College has been just stagnating for the last 5 years or so IMO. Science Hall was designed to be a world class educational facility. Recall the building plans that were displayed on line. But the powers that be back then apparently didn't think in terms of dollars and sense (pun intended), and we have an unfinished dream in the middle of our urban down at the heels campus. If they have plans for the future, they are keeping them a secret. The niece has other schools of her list to visit. Any one of them will give JCU a run for its money, while CC falls farther behind. That is unless a couple (or more) of well heeled benefactors come to rescue her.

I’ll take Canisius over JC any day of the week.
