Subject: Analysis After Two Games

After a good performance last night, tonight was really hard to watch. They looked every bit the part of the coaches poll 10th place team in the MAAC.

Fofana - I stand by his ability to handle it and he works on the defensive end but damn he needs to make a shot.

Maslennikov - Not so sure he's a serviceable big man any longer. He was not good tonight. Once White and Hitchon are back - more on that later - I can't see him getting many minutes.

Fritz - He needs to assert himself A LOT more. Period.

Uijtendaal - I honestly don't want to be too tough on a freshman who has played just two games in a new country during a pandemic but I just really don't see it with him. I thought at the very least he'd be the designated 3 point threat but eh...

Henderson - Was hoping that since he is now healthy that he would be more consistent but not the case after tonight. He needs to step up.

Brandon - Obviously their best player. I'm completely baffled as to why he spent so much time on the bench tonight late in the second half. Makes no sense.

Beyah - Certainly expected more from the most heralded recruit. 4 minutes tonight. Apparently if your one shot hits the side of the backboard, you can't unseat the guy who throws up air balls and hits the front of the backboard on his 4 shots. I can't believe that I'm making that comparison.

Harried - Rightfully got the start and 29 minutes tonight. And another solid performance. Great to see how much he has improved from the line.

Green - Double double tonight. Plays real hard and is always locked in. Hopefully once White and Hitchon actually play, he will be even more effective. Very impressive so far.

White - Sat out again tonight as a "precaution". I'm kind of confused by this. A senior who may play 15-20 games in a season like this, with no structural damage, in one of the few games they will be favored in all year and who probably would have scored 7-8 points and grabbed 5-6 rebounds, doesn't play so they can have him at Siena - two games they will likely lose by double figures. I highly doubt this was Jalanni's decision and I'm guessing they would be 2-0 right now if he had played. I hope they didn't think they would win tonight with or without him...

Hitchon - Completely cleared medically to play but didn't. I'm quite sure he could have had a better stat line than Maslennikov - 0 points, 4 fouls, 1 rebound and 2 turnovers - without ever practicing.

Brooks - He dressed despite his non-COVID illness.

Ahemed - Another non-COVID illness. But he didn't dress. Actually, wasn't even in the building - again. Hopefully, moving forward, he takes away a lot of minutes from others.

Agree with Griff’s analysis. Here are my grades after 2 games::

Malek Green. (A). Only new player who looks like a D-I player. Great motor and could be a force if he is allowed to play in h blocks and not on that godawful perimeter weave.

Majesty. (A+). Our only player who can create shots off that weave. Playing well at both ends and harassing opposing guards. If he got hurt....

Fofana. (D). Deer in my he headlights. Playing scared and showing no leadership or ability to penetrate. Hopefully will emerge sometime.

Siem. (D-). Overmatched at both ends. Horrible shooting and too skinny to defend or rebound.

George M. (D). Looks like he’ll be a deep bench player once Whie and Hitchon return. Big body but slow as molasses although he works hard.

Harried. (B). Heady player who needs to assert himself on offense and drive to the hoop. Shot seems better this year but needs to create more.

Jacco (B). Has the ability to be a force but wasted in the perimeter offense. Excellent passer and improved rebounder but needs to be more aggressive on offense.

Beyah (D). Nice body for a guard but mistake prone . Hard to believe he’s not a better player than Siem. Hoping he gets more PT and gains confidence.

Henderson (B-). Inconsistent shooter who disappears for long stretches. Stand up shooter who doesn’t create off the dribble.

Hitchon White, Brooks and aAhmed. (Inc). While Brooks is n unknown, the other 3 have he potential to contribute mightily. The two seniors should be motivated and eager, while Ahmed is a terrific talent whose slashing ability should be a welcome addition.

Reggie and staff (D). Badly out coached by Dunne in game two after adjustments to the inept weave shut down the offense. Wasting Green and Fritz on the perimeter. Needs to realize that a big reboot is needed and to light fires under Fritz, Henderson and Fofana.

How do you lose at home to a team picked last in the MAAC, who loses by far their best player early in the game, who had countless turnovers, plays playground ball for much of the game, and shoots poorly? The Griffs had the answer. You play even worse than them.

Totally agree. Having watched a lot of the Manhatten-Rider game before the Griffs game, they better be ready to play big boy basketball in the paint against those two teams this year, or they are in deep trouble. Those pylons rotating around center court in the weave, with no one near the basket ,will not cut it unless they hit every cranked up shot from outside. And that is NOT going to happen.

Definitely needed the 4 players that didn't play these two games. Green definitely needs some help. They need Hitchon and White back as soon as possible. Go Griffs!
