First I am a life long Buffalonian who went to Canisius and once was a Griffs team manager when Canisius played at the old Buffalo Aud. I have never commented on this board until now.

I am a Buffalo sports fan and Big 4 fan before that Little Three. I am a fan of all four schools and support all four schools equally. But your a Canisius alum yes but I was a Buffalo sports fan before I went to Canisius. That what all four area schools alums don’t get. I root for the Bonnies, Purple Eagles and UB Bulls too. If someone says Niagara there in our conference right. When I was in high school I went to AUD double header Bonnies, Griffs then Purple Eagles played St John’s in the nightcap in 1985 I believe it was. If you are a true Buffalonian you’re rooting for the Eagles over big NYC St John’s that is reality that our Big 4 schools don’t get what ever Big Four school you will never own the college basketball market to yourselves. I am a huge Bonnies fan and I own a Bonnies Retro Bob Lanier brown away jersey. Yes as a Buffalo fan I am rooting for them just like UB, Canisius and Niagara.

Canisius isn’t a mess it needs better marketing but also dealing with the financial realities of Canisius athletics. Ok here are my changes below that don’t cost a lot of money to do based in reality.

1. Canisius is called Canisius-Buffalo like Loyola-Chicago so recruits even know where Canisius is. It also sells Canisius as a Buffalo school.

2. The Gold jersey no longer says Canisius they become alternate jersey that say Buffalo only like what SMU football did with there Dallas alternate uniform. Also Canisius sells that jersey online so Buffalo can take pride in Canisius Golden Griffins basketball again. Plus it is free advertising for the basketball program.

3. When Canisius re sands the basketball court Buffalo Canalside is sanded into the court along with Buffalo on the end courts like the old Buffalo Aud floor.

4. New alternate GOLD Buffalo like the last Buffalo Sabres winter classic logo but instead of Sabres the Buffalo will say Griffs. That logo also is incorporated into the basketball floor and sold on New Era hats, t-shirts etc.

5. The KAC is renamed Buffalo Memorial Auditorium or AUD two. This way Canisius sells our history plus forward thinking with Canalside.

6. After every Griffs home win Canisius plays Buffalo Talking Proud maybe with a Griffs twist. Also that song is played in any Canisius basketball commercials or radio broadcasts to know Canisius is Buffalo own school.

7.Canisius thinks about starting a Griffs basketball fan club called Griffs Mafia like Bills Mafia. Some Griffs fans will say no that is copying well the Toronto Blue Jays played in Buffalo and Blue Jays mafia sold 60,000 plus Buffalo Blue Jays t-shirts, hats etc that isn’t nothing. Canisius needs money coming into this program so new ideas are needed.

Long term goals drill into the KAC floor like Seattle Kraken did for there new redone arena you will have to most likely move the current Griffs locker room to a new location in KAC when Canisius does that. Add club seating or dugout seating getting the AUD 2 to 4,500 seats like Loyola-Chicago that should be the Canisius-Buffalo example to improve the Griffs basketball team. Also you drill down so Canisius can add at the very least a two sided replay video board like Reilly Center or better yet a four sided board like UB Alumni Arena.

Last I disagree with hockey I think those high cost plus rent at Harbor Center that benefits Terry Pegula not Canisius in my opinion. Niagara a lot of the same problems as Canisius. St Bonaventure and UB don’t do hockey because it is very expensive and you don’t have the NCAA television money or the same mass national appeal for hockey. If Canisius had all kinds of money to spend you can sell me more on NCAA FBS football playing rent at Sahlen’s field for Griffs FBS football to get students before hockey because football and basketball drive the NCAA bus not hockey or baseball. Go Griffs! Let’s Go Buffalo

Canisius doesn’t need Buffalo in their namesake. Loyola foes this because there are several other Loyola’s. Let’s start with a new coaching staff and realize that this group isn’t going to get us there. I just watched Mount Saint Mary’s beat Bryant. Tiny school in western Maryland, some how they seem to recruit and have coaches who can get to their program to the next level..I’d rather have us invest like Bona. You also need your college President to invest in athletics vs. managing everything on a shoestring budget. The mistake we made was when Baron left we never posted the job. The program was improving and there was talent on that team. We’re paying for it now. You would never see Bona make that mistake. Watch when Schmidt moves on. We should already be looking.

Tell me this guy isn't serious lol. Some of the most ridiculous suggestions I've ever heard by a guy who doesn't have a favorite team. Oh my God I'm dying right now after reading that again! Imagine a New Yorker saying he roots for the Yankees, Mets, Jets, and Giants. I can't with this guy!

I can see it now. The Canisius-Buffalo Golden Griffins are playing "Griffs Make Me Wanna Shout" as the sold out crowd, known as Griffins Mafia, exits "AUD 2". Thank God they sanded down the court at HSBC where we don't play because we are now in the 4,500 seat renovated AUD 2 with it's four video boards and drilled in floor!

I gotta stop and change my pants! Come on who wrote this? LMAO.

I don’t think it’s right to be disrespectful here, all ideas are valid and welcome because we all want to see this program succeed and grow.

I am serious and I don’t agree that firing Reggie Witherspoon some how solves Canisius basketball marketing problems and lack of fan interest revenue. If I could pick one of my ideas only above Canisius-Buffalo would be the name change going forward. Bottom line Canisius needs to wake up if they ever want to rebuild the fan base even to 2,000 every game sellouts and added potential new revenue streams adding new Canisius-Buffalo merchandise does that. Canisius athletics needs a new image make over along with marketing more Buffalo less the current path because it is pretty obvious Buffalo/WNY fans for the most part today are saying no thank you with the current attendance numbers and interest levels today in Canisius basketball sadly in my opinion. I don’t see why adding-Buffalo to Canisius is such a deal breaker for some. If you are old school call them Canisius. The Buffalo gets potential new Griffs fans interested to take a look at Canisius. I am old school Griffs fan but the school needs change adding Buffalo gets some interest and a conversation started about Griffs basketball at least it is a conversation starter than the Griffs have now which is not much sadly. Go Griffs! Let’s Go Buffalo

The way you build a program is by winning - period. And while it may be a heavier lift for some than others, winning needs to happen before anything else will improve. Beilein coached in a gym with wooden bleachers and every game was sold out because he won. Look at how Baron was performing in pretty much the same gym - and although he used to be critical of the crowds, it was head and shoulders over what it has been in recent years.

I've been to Rider - makes the KAC look like the United Center. Bagget has had a pretty good run there because until this year, he has won. I believe Paulus is doing the same thing at Niagara in a similar building. Tommy Dempsey, who had success at Rider, couldn't win anything in 9 years at Binghamton inside of a 4400 seat arena built in 2004. Look at Quinnipiac's building - are they winning?

The whole Canisius-Buffalo I don't get one bit. Besides sounding really odd, kids aren't choosing the school, the coaches are offering the school. I'm pretty sure one of the first things a kid does when contacted by Canisius coaches is look to see where it's located. And despite our being thrilled with the resurrection of the city of Buffalo, I highly doubt that a kid in Washington D.C. or New York is sitting there saying, "Hey I want to go to Canisius-Buffalo, it's in Buffalo." Trying to sell Canisius-Buffalo merchandise does nothing to turn this program around (I won't even get into the other ideas as a previous poster did). A heavy lift? Absolutely. But you need to win first with the cards you've been dealt. Everything else will then follow.

And let's be honest, this program has had some pretty good teams and some really good players over the last several years. The biggest gripe - that I wholeheartedly share - is the lack of success in the MAAC tournament and the inability to get to an NCAA tournament. Would we really be having this discussion if the 20 win 2012-13, 2013-14, 2017-18 teams had won the MAAC tournament or even just advanced to the finals?

Our teams fell short in the tourney but let's also be honest this current coaching staff hasn't done anything to build a connection with students, alums and boosters.

PS: Athletics needs to be part of the next capital campaign

I couldn't agree more. And that's one of the pieces to a coach building a successful program, regardless of where they play.

I think main thing is we all want what is best for improving the Griffs. My point with Canisius-Buffalo is it potentially opens much needed revenue for Canisius basketball. Fans want a new coach or a improved facilities that cost money. Canisius needs to grow it’s revenue especially merchandising wise. UB has three different color Bulls logos think Oregon Ducks that today as an example. Even SMU has a Dallas jersey that is smart for business. Look around Buffalo UB merchandise is worn all around town. All three Little Three schools have missed the boat that way in my opinion. Selling Buffalo theme Griffs merchandise as a alternate logo is smart marketing so I disagree with many on this board but that is ok. Bottom line we all want what is best for Canisius basketball. Go Griffs! Let’s Go Buffalo

I think the Griffs should update their logo and also sell vintage Griffs merchandise. Look how people love the throwbacks when it comes to pro sports. Our Golden Griffin has had some cool looks in the 60’s, 70’s & 80’s. The ADPRO website needs to offer thieve types of items and perhaps could update it with other selections. There should be flags, coolers, corn hole and other items which show that you’re a fan. You’re correct this is missed revenue. Go Griffs!

I like the idea of new gear but come on, revenue? The revenue generated might buy the coaching staff lunch at Subway and a few rooms at a Best Western on a recruiting trip. We need to think just a bit bigger than that.
