I am serious and I don’t agree that firing Reggie Witherspoon some how solves Canisius basketball marketing problems and lack of fan interest revenue. If I could pick one of my ideas only above Canisius-Buffalo would be the name change going forward. Bottom line Canisius needs to wake up if they ever want to rebuild the fan base even to 2,000 every game sellouts and added potential new revenue streams adding new Canisius-Buffalo merchandise does that. Canisius athletics needs a new image make over along with marketing more Buffalo less the current path because it is pretty obvious Buffalo/WNY fans for the most part today are saying no thank you with the current attendance numbers and interest levels today in Canisius basketball sadly in my opinion. I don’t see why adding-Buffalo to Canisius is such a deal breaker for some. If you are old school call them Canisius. The Buffalo gets potential new Griffs fans interested to take a look at Canisius. I am old school Griffs fan but the school needs change adding Buffalo gets some interest and a conversation started about Griffs basketball at least it is a conversation starter than the Griffs have now which is not much sadly. Go Griffs! Let’s Go Buffalo

The way you build a program is by winning - period. And while it may be a heavier lift for some than others, winning needs to happen before anything else will improve. Beilein coached in a gym with wooden bleachers and every game was sold out because he won. Look at how Baron was performing in pretty much the same gym - and although he used to be critical of the crowds, it was head and shoulders over what it has been in recent years.

I've been to Rider - makes the KAC look like the United Center. Bagget has had a pretty good run there because until this year, he has won. I believe Paulus is doing the same thing at Niagara in a similar building. Tommy Dempsey, who had success at Rider, couldn't win anything in 9 years at Binghamton inside of a 4400 seat arena built in 2004. Look at Quinnipiac's building - are they winning?

The whole Canisius-Buffalo I don't get one bit. Besides sounding really odd, kids aren't choosing the school, the coaches are offering the school. I'm pretty sure one of the first things a kid does when contacted by Canisius coaches is look to see where it's located. And despite our being thrilled with the resurrection of the city of Buffalo, I highly doubt that a kid in Washington D.C. or New York is sitting there saying, "Hey I want to go to Canisius-Buffalo, it's in Buffalo." Trying to sell Canisius-Buffalo merchandise does nothing to turn this program around (I won't even get into the other ideas as a previous poster did). A heavy lift? Absolutely. But you need to win first with the cards you've been dealt. Everything else will then follow.

And let's be honest, this program has had some pretty good teams and some really good players over the last several years. The biggest gripe - that I wholeheartedly share - is the lack of success in the MAAC tournament and the inability to get to an NCAA tournament. Would we really be having this discussion if the 20 win 2012-13, 2013-14, 2017-18 teams had won the MAAC tournament or even just advanced to the finals?

Our teams fell short in the tourney but let's also be honest this current coaching staff hasn't done anything to build a connection with students, alums and boosters.

PS: Athletics needs to be part of the next capital campaign

I couldn't agree more. And that's one of the pieces to a coach building a successful program, regardless of where they play.

I think main thing is we all want what is best for improving the Griffs. My point with Canisius-Buffalo is it potentially opens much needed revenue for Canisius basketball. Fans want a new coach or a improved facilities that cost money. Canisius needs to grow it’s revenue especially merchandising wise. UB has three different color Bulls logos think Oregon Ducks that today as an example. Even SMU has a Dallas jersey that is smart for business. Look around Buffalo UB merchandise is worn all around town. All three Little Three schools have missed the boat that way in my opinion. Selling Buffalo theme Griffs merchandise as a alternate logo is smart marketing so I disagree with many on this board but that is ok. Bottom line we all want what is best for Canisius basketball. Go Griffs! Let’s Go Buffalo

I think the Griffs should update their logo and also sell vintage Griffs merchandise. Look how people love the throwbacks when it comes to pro sports. Our Golden Griffin has had some cool looks in the 60’s, 70’s & 80’s. The ADPRO website needs to offer thieve types of items and perhaps could update it with other selections. There should be flags, coolers, corn hole and other items which show that you’re a fan. You’re correct this is missed revenue. Go Griffs!

I like the idea of new gear but come on, revenue? The revenue generated might buy the coaching staff lunch at Subway and a few rooms at a Best Western on a recruiting trip. We need to think just a bit bigger than that.
