Given that the nine remaining America East programs are public universities, I doubt Fairfield is seen as a fit.

Perhaps you could see some geography-based conference shuffling to cut costs at the mid and low levels of D1. I worry about Canisius and Niagara with this. MAAC schools like Iona, Manhattan, Siena, Quinnipiac, Fairfield, and Monmouth could break off and form a new league with the likes of Hofstra, Northeastern, Long Island, and Drexel. Other than exit fees, I struggle to understand why such a move hasn't already happened in the northeast.

These two don’t fit the MAAC model. Both schools are big and will go at a drop of a hat. Our location doesn’t help us. Every MAAC schools complains about the WNY trek. Wish we had pushed back in the day to get into the Eastern 8 with schools like Bona & Duquesne. Those geographies would have worked in our favor.
