Subject: Matteus Case

The one time Griff recruit, who would have played his freshman year this past season for Penn (until the Ivy League decided not to play), has entered the transfer portal. The 6'5" swingman from Toronto had received offers from Canisius, Drake, Mount St. Mary's, and Florida Atlantic before settling on the Quakers. Will be interesting to see if the Griffs are still interested.

Larry Blunt gave Matteus his first offer at Canisius and then another when he moved to Drake, so don’t expect this being an option. His handlers are looking high-major. Throwing away an Ivy education for crazy NBA dreams.

I don't doubt in any way that Blunt was the primary guy in both the Canisius and Drake offers, but I don't think that necessarily means he had no other relationships with Canisius.

It also wouldn't surprise me that a la Takal Molson, his "handlers" may be misleading him. But unlike Molson, Reese, Robertson, etc., he has no D1 experience. So why would high-major schools who weren't interested in him a year ago, now be interested when he hasn't played a game in a year and a half?

Matteus committed to Providence. Too high, but can drop down again after another transfer. Threw a winning lottery ticket in life as an Ivy student... for more lottery tickets to become a pro.
