One that comes to mind, because it's one of my all-time favourite films, is Frank Capra's, You Can't Take it With You - 1938....with an all-star cast, oh, my man Lionel Barrymore, Jimmy Stuart, Ann Miller, Spring Byington, Edward Arnold, and on and on. Lionel has nurtured quite a brood....individualists doesn't cut it for these zany family members. Not only were they completely free to persue whatever whim might inspire them, but Lionel was holding out on paying his taxes, and the film was very much, the individual against big corporations. It illustrated how these businessmen had the creative spark smothered by their obsession with money, and Jimmy Stuart grapples with following in his father's footsteps, or following his own dream. I suppose some would say that the anti-tax stance of Lionel, could be seen as conservative, but it seems to me that the main message is liberal...because of the freedom of the individual...and the OH SO FREE expressions of them all!! -- Judi's Romance in Vintage Film Forum

His movie "The Court Martial of Billy Mitchell" (1955) definately would count as a liberal movie, in this case based on a true story. Cooper plays the title role, a famous Army officer in the 1920s who arranged for his own court martial in order to get media attention to the pitiful state of army aircraft in the 1920s.
