The Sri Lanka Tourist Board list only 3 hotels in Galle in its accomodation brochure and the 5 star one The Lighthouse is around $US200 a room a night.The other two are called 1.The New Oriental Hotel 2.The Lady Hill Hotel, both are inland and are over 100 years old around $US60 a room.
An alternative would be to stay in the nearby beach resorts of Hikkaduwa(12 miles away)or Unwatuna(7 miles away)both of which have numerous beach front options which I know a few include myself who are going to the 1st Test are using.(plenty around $US40-60 a room)
I have been to Galle and would have thought even if you stayed in the city you would probably end up at one of the beach resorts for the nightlife in the evening anyway.
