She wonders briefly why she was not one of the chosen mares then remembering that she'd been away a couple days... The dark mare sighs and lays down beneath a tree. She watches the spring flow and soon an inner spring begins to flow as well... In the months that her sister Aajah had been here, something had always come between the mare and motherhood from inactive stallions to simply being in limbo between two herds. She shakes her mane as she begins to fear that the same curse is upon her. Will she be forever doomed to never mother a foal? The very thought brings on a rush of tears. Still though her heart breaks she makes not a sound. Only the sound of mutiple tears falling into the spring water can be heard by the most vigilent listeners. She had hoped that though she was the last of her sisters to join that she would be the first to become a mother... Looking overhead she sees an eagle soaring. She watches the eagle slowly drift in the wind. She turns her attention to watching the others dutifully as an Alpha mare... None may see her pain so she masks it and stands a little way off from the rest of the herd. Though the site of some of the mares swelling bellies sends a shaft through her heart, she only averts her gaze until the moment passes. It was Emir's choice of who would mother his foals not hers and she does her best to do whatever she can for the mares in foal...

Observant steed has noticed the area has become sparse and well-grazed, and with breeding season in full swing, he wishes to find a more secure gathering place that will not only protect from rogue stallions, but also provide safety for newborn foals. Whickering to calm the milling femmes, he waits for prized Alpha to lead, while he will remain in the rear, keeping an especially close eye on Diamond in the Rough should she take it upon herself to try and leave the herd. -=-

Several small meadows within the immeadiate vicinity break up the monotonous forest, offering knee-high grasses as well as secure birthing places. Moving through the band, bronc lovingly nuzzles the mares he passes, checking on their condition before moving on. Sooty steed approaches Alpha last, and whickers, pleased with her leadership. Lipping her mane, he reaches to scratch gilded withers with squared ivories, labias whisking away loosened dirt. -=-

Simply because he is larger and better muscled (wild stallions are always "buffer" than mares, unless ill or injured), he forces her towards the harem, all the while screeching fiercely. Pivoting smoothly and swiftly on powerful hind limbs, he cuts off her attempts at escape. Coarse plume lashes against charred mahogany flank, damp with sweat. Surging forward for a final time, sensitive lobes pinned against his rounded cranium, he plants rugged dentes on the point where neck meets withers, and propels the rebellious one towards the band. Rising once more to loudly proclaim his dominance, he glares at Diamond in the Rough, daring her to challenge him again. -=-

The femme, who was in foal with El Blanco Diablo would never feel safe with another stallion... she knew what the outcome of the foal would be... Death... As auds are placed aggressively to poll, femme screams a shrill call for her stallion, waiting for him to take her back... El Blanco Diablo had already gained her respect, and this stallion, the name she had still not gotten down, would never. Silken plumage turns wirey, writhing it all over in disgust. Striking out at whomever may be too close, even the mares, although they were not involved, she made her point clear... She Hated this harem, and would never accept it. Never Whinnying repetitively for her newly-adopted fily, femme knew she could not survive for long without a fresh supply of lactose... all was poor for she had lost everything, it seemed, except for her stubborn mind and spirit. That would never be broken.

Out of Character: The only position that Cernunnos is concerned about is Alpha, and that spot is currently held by Return to Forever. All other ranks are determined among the mares, either by shows of dominance, or battling if necessary. However, I don't think anyone has tried to claim any other positions at this time.
