It's starting!

GCPSS's latest 'idea du jour' is alternative elementary schools. Yes siree, alternative elementary schools fit right in with GCPSS's support role to provide an educated workforce for the coming influx of high-tech businesses that the Gwinnett CoC is going to attract to the County.

But this whacky idea just might be what we need to completely rethink GCPSS's impact on Gwinnett County's tax structure. 'Light bulb' realizations are dawning on a lot of Gwinnettians that (1) school tax revenues should follow students to those private/charter/public K-12 schools that parents determine best suit the needs of their children -- not to one monolithic public school system, (2) GCPSS is shrinking and will continue to shrink for the forseeable future -- both in enrollment size and the quality of academic education it provides to economically advantaged students, and (3) GCPSS appears to be more concerned with meeting bureaucratically devised goals (and the money that comes to it by doing so) than providing equally funded academic programs for students with differing occupational goals.

That this is so is attested to by the musings of an administrator of another Gwinnett County web site who posted 'Balance the [Gwinnett County] budget? Spend less on education'.
