The house rings with the sound of silence, and as much as Christmas seems to be enjoyed here at Che' Whalen, I kind of like sitting in my favorite time machine listening to the blood course through the vessels of my ears. Things will be quiet here at least until New Year's Eve, when we host our annual party, designed to keep the residents of the compound off the public highways and within safe keeping.

Today has been spent washing tablecloths and the bedding our guests slept on Christmas Eve--though not together--tablecloths and bedding we're talking about here, and vacuuming cracker crumbs up from the dining room floor where they ate the stews and the taco soup, and yesterday's evening meal of leftovers from the earlier dinner, which is served in the great room in the basement. It didn't take as long to vacuum there as the only crackers were absorbed in the turkey dressing.

We'll do the customary deli spread for New Years so the chief cook can get a respite from the kitchen. Beverages are ready and the comedy video of last year's party participants is in editing. This year the theme is to come dressed as you believe you might have appeared in a former life. I'm having a hard time (no pun intended) coming up with a costume that resembles sperm.

Since visits here seem to be few and far between for many, this will be my last post for the year. Wishing y'all a very happy and safe New Year.
