Subject: skiing weekend in Vermont

Too all classmates, up here in beautiful Vermont with 41 other downhill and x-c skiers for a four-day weekend. Today I x-c Mt. Mansfield Ski Center which seemed to me to be more uphill than down. And some of the downhills were tough, as I have no wax skis and no metal edges to cut into the slope. Even doing a wide snowplow I still seemed to always slide to the right of the slope. I wiped out four times, and two were falling either on my behind in deep deep snow and having to roll on my side to get out as there was no other way of maneuvering my body and the other was going headfirst down near the bottom of a steep hill. Tomorrow about 12 of us x-c skiers will be tackling Trapp Family Ski Area while the rest of the group goes to the Mt. Mansfield downhill area to try again as the winds were 45 to 55 mph on the mountain and there were avalanche warnings for the backcountry area. About five people in our group did do the high slopes despite the cold blowing winds.
The temperature is just right for skiing through the woods not to warm so that you stick. Hope you are all having a nice winter season wherever you are. Till my next venture which should be to Gettysburg with the OCCWRT in April, adios.
