Subject: Chicken Chronicles

Well, the hens are in place in the Chicken Hilton, as my wife calls the hen house, and producing a half dozen eggs a day. I think my grandson has sold 6 dozen eggs so far. He's practically giving them away at $1.25/ dozen. Brown eggs sell for $2.00/dz in the local grocery stores. He's barely making enough to pay his feed bill. He started with 9 hens but either a racoon or a 'possum got three of them before we took additional security measures.

The grandsons and I spent nearly the whole day today at the stock sale--ended up buying a rooster and nearly a couple of goats--they wanted the goats but I convinced them that they weren't ready for goats yet. The youngest grandson wants to start raising rabbits! Who knows, we may start the Rabbit Chronicles before the year is out.

I'm too busy with green beans, Lima beans and corn coming in right now to be hampered with building a rabbit hutch. Second crop of cucumbers should start in about 35 days. Watching the pumpkins closely, and the eggplant. This self-sufficient lifestyle is apt to send me to an eary grave.
