Subject: The journey- part 2

The journey (part 2)- it began with an all-night flight from Seattle, WA, to Washington, DC, to meet and discuss issues with my Congressional representatives. Since they are all of the same political party, their answers on each subject were amazingly consistent, almost as if they were using a script!!…who would think! Sometimes they even addressed the subject at hand, but, in general, they applauded their individual and party “accomplishments”, regardless if their answers were even relevant to the questions. I next got special permission to sit in on a Presidential press conference at the White House briefing room with the hopes of seeing and hearing major executive branch officials. But, as somewhat expected, the press secretary was the only one present and the President was not available due to a fund raiser and follow-on golf game…oh, the pressures of government! I left the USA soon thereafter and flew on to Europe to meet with some officials to listen to and discuss matters of state. I found the French quite efficient, yet slow to decide on issues due to their overriding concern with not being offensive. The British, on the other hand, seemed more ready to decide and act on issues without too much delay since they seemed to have a handle on most of the items. Many of the other nations present were overwhelmed by everything and seemed to take a wait and see attitude which left them with little progress in their decision making. It seemed like a repeat of many of the previous coalitions created to solve the world’s concerns…about that phrase … “history repeating itself”. I left for some “down time’ in northern Italy to relax at the lake region which is one of my favorite places. I did manage to get down to Rome for a few days and meet with some of the Vatican staff and hear the Pope speak about global warming again. Me thinks he should stick to religious matters since he offered little evidence to back up his points. I did enjoy, however, being offered the chance to assist at a mass offered at one of the smaller altars in St Peter’s. My previous Catholic background came in handy, but I still felt ill prepared in front of the congregation. It was, indeed, an honor and privilege to do this. After a few more days of rest, I departed for the Far East to continue this unique trip…more to come!!
