My wife is a fossil hunter and enjoys scrambling through road cut debris and established fossil fields...all over...she is also one to oooh ans ahhh over sights she's read about, been taught about, and seen in history books. She likes ancient buildings and pastoral countrysides.

I am more oriented to people and cultures.

We both enjoy experiencing the American evolution.

Driving puts us in control of time and space. We share the driving, go where we want, when we want.

Cruising and flying are also enjoyed, but for the places we can't drive to. Cruising puts schedule and destinations into someone else's control...and flying over the U.S. leaves a lot of territory unseen. U.S. flying is resorted to only when there are time constraints.

We also don't do bus guided tours for the same reasons. There may come a time when tours are dictated because of health or physical limitations, but until then, we'll let the rubber contact the road and do face-to-face encounters with this wide and wonderful country and it's people and their creations.
