Subject: Summer's End

With the first day school rapidly approaching (8/27), I've been busy catching up all those tasks I let slide to travel and fish. Several trees had to be taken down and a couple of overgrown landscaped areas cried out to be reclaimed from the jungle. Been outdoors with chainsaw, bush-ax, fork and rake early everyday since the first of August. Rains most evenings after months of drought are both welcome and dreaded...more rain means more mowing and it takes nearly 9 hours to get all he grass down to acceptable appearances.
Then, there is the trimming of bushes and trees to facilitate the next mowing. I probably should hire some of this out but I hate having someone else do what I can do myself...besides, it keeps the joints and mind lubricated.

Three evenings a week I go watch my grandson's soccer team sweat buckets since the season has already started. Even the high school football season begins tonight. Hope I can keep up this pace for at least another two years--after the youngest g'son graduates I may slow down. Been thinking about resigning from my local newspaper column just to have more time to moodle without deadlines.

Hope everyone's summer was as rewarding and relaxing.
