Subject: Old Forge Mini

Sept 22nd found several of us Class of 61ers on an Amtrak
train heading towards Thendara/Old Forge for the day, after meeting at the Utica train station.

This was our 14th Annual Mini. Imagine that! We had been
on a dinner cruise (Skaneateles), to the Zoo (Burnet Park Zoo), and to Pratt Falls State Park, to name a few other Mini(s), but never on a day trip by train.

Hoping for a chance to do some leaf peeping, this Mini was scheduled for September instead of our customary 3rd weekend in August. Green, and plenty of it, was what we
saw through the train windows all the way up and all the way back. Various shades of green. No reds or yellows or oranges, yet.

Twenty of us signed up for the adventure, the first of which was catching the train! Once we were all together,
we were directed to our special car, which became our home
for the day. Beverages, plus wine and beer, plus snacks
were available in the dining car.

Once in Thendara, we hopped on a shuttle bus, which took us into Old Forge. Just a few minutes away was the Pickle Boat Grill where we all met for lunch. American and Mexican fare were both offered. Each of us ordered whatever we desired off the menu.

Before we caught the shuttle back to the train, we spent some time walking around Old Forge, enjoying the specialty shops of Old Forge. The favorites seemed to be the Life
is Good t-shirt shop plus the famous, huge and ever-expanding, hardware store. If you could not find it there, you could not find it anywhere!

The ride home found a few of us with closed eyelids, while
others including me were taking busy taking pics of the waterway on either side of the train tracks. These pics will someday, hopefully soon, be placed on our website
for all classmates to enjoy again and again.

Among those who attended included Billy Goodwin, Liz Bieling VanIderstine, Janet Greer Wilson, Hazel Sterner Cushman, John McLoughlin, Dave & Kathy Turo (& friends), Sue Kenyon Bartow, Nancy Hague Poquadeck, Maria Russo (Class of '60), and Donna Prosser Britton.

Look for an announcement of our next Mini, the 15th annual,
to take place most likely the 3rd Saturday in August at a place yet to be determined. Have a good idea for just the perfect venue? Share it with me. I will pass it on to our
Steering Committee for consideration.
