Hi Elaine,

The Japanese reparations were not applied via the court system. Congress just set an amount, $20,000, and sent it former internees of the camps. They also set up a large amount of money to fund educational needs of the children of the Japanese. I do not know exactly how that is administered.

The question I have is can we do the same thing with descendents of slaves? If someone can show their direct ancestors were slaves, could we just cut them a check? What other restrictions would you put on a claim from African-Americans?
