I am looking for any possible connections that could explain the name of my ancestor, Cleveland C. Rodgers/Rogers. He was born in 1844 outside of Madison, IN, to Charles Rodgers (who appears to have originated in western Pennsylvania) and Elizabeth Wise Rodgers. Her mother, Julia Vawter Wise, was the daughter of Jesse Vawter, who helped found a number of Baptist congregations in southern Indiana after 1805. The Vawters originated in Virginia, but lived in territory near the Holston River and in Kentucky before 1790. The Wise family appears to have originally come from the Eastern Shore of Maryland or Virginia.

Any information about early Cleveland baptists in Indiana, Kentucky or the Holston settlements would be of interest to me.

Many thanks!
