Lenae,

I too, am looking for information on this line. I'd be interested in any information you have - even if it disagrees with mine.
-----
Ulysses T. Cleveland born about 1801 in Franklin County Georgia, burried Sept. 3, 1864 in Mobile County, Alabama. Arcoding to the 1860 Mobile, AL census, his wife's name was Sarah (I have a hunch that Sarah is not his first wife). He was the son of John Cleveland and Comfort Gilbert. I have possible children for Ulysess as:

Harriet J. born ca 1820-25
unknown son born ca 1821-30
William Wesley born ca 1825
unknown daughter born ca 1826-1830
John M. born ca 1828
Comfort born ca 1832-33
unknown son2 born ca 1836-1840
Rebecca born ca 1837-1838
Joseph C. born ca 1839-1840

Here are my notes -
From The Cleveland Genealogy book "...went to Mobile 1825-1830, merchant, was 1851 tax collector for his county; of Mobile before 1861. Two daughters of marriage before 1861. A Ulyssess T. Cleveland of Mobile 1883." It is possible that the Ulyssess T. Cleveland in 1883 is the grandson of this Ulyssess. (Yes, that Ulysses is the son of William Wesley Cleveland).

On serveral occassions I have noticed U. T. Cleveland translated as "M. T." or "W. T." Cleveland.

According to "Alabama Land Records" database from Ancestry.com, Ulysses T. Cleveland bought land in old Cahaba, Alabama twice in 1835. 38.37 acres on April 2, 1835 and then 39.85 acres on November 2, 1835. Old Cahaba (unincorporated in 1989) (Dallas County, near Selma) was previously a boom-town and even one of the five Alabama State Capitals (see http://www.archives.state.al.us/capital/capitals.html for more information), but was run-down and practicly a ghost-town when U. T. Cleveland bought in 1835. Here is a decent article on some history of old Cahaba - http://www.monkeyplanet.com/articles/cahawba.htm. Additionally, a Ulyssis T. Cleveland bought 122.5 acres on January 1, 1852 via the St. Stephens Land Office. The old St. Stephens Land Office opened in 1807 and is now a ghost town in what is now Washington County, just north of Mobile County.

According to "Tax Rolls 1836-1839, Mobile Alabama", a "W T Cleveland" is listed for 1839. I wonder if this is really a mistransposition of U T Cleveland. Brothers William F. and John G. are listed along with "W T" in this publication.

The 1840 Census lists Ulysses T. Cleveland in Blount County, AL with the following children: 2 males under 5 years, 1 male of 5 & under 10, 1 female under 5, and 1 female of 5 & under 10. I suspect these to be his children and the oldest female his daughter Harriet. I'm still looking for proof.

If all of the above is true, you can see Ulysses making his way to Mobile from Franklin County, Georgia. He's in Blount County in 1830, Dallas County in 1835 and Mobile County by the late 1830's.
