In reply to: Dick Carberry 's message, "Cleveland's of Massachusetts" on Sun, Jan 26 2003, 21:42:12

I am the great granddaughter of George A.Cleveland. br.22 May 1870 in Ware MA His father was Joseoh and mother was Abbie Jean Crouch. He also goes back to Moses Cleveland.

I have very little on George. I know he married my ggrandmother, Ada Trudell in MA and devorced him in 1914 in OR. They had one daughter Irene Helen br. MA. Ada and Irene settled in San Fran. CA after the devorce. I found that she had a brother in Oakland CA. at that time.

He had other children by another spouse. My grandmother wrote often to her half sister Albertina {Cleveland} Lynch, in Conn. I found her in the 1930 census and it listed her 6 years older than my grandmother. Then I found another letter to my gmother from a Shirly living in Leominster Conn. She write about living with her grandparents and uses the name Abbie Crouch as her grandmother. She also mentions that her mother died at the age 28. I had always thought that he remarried after he and Ada were devorced. Seems not so now. But it has been really hard for me to find out whom his first with was. Plus, very confusing to me.

ANY help with George would be so greatlly appreciated.

I am also related. The Shirley that Diana mentions was my mother, Shirley Cleveland ( Finley) Hester. Her mother was Nettie Cleveland daughter of Joseph Anson Cleveland and Abbe Jane Crouch.I have J. Anson's ring that he wore during his stint in the Civil War also his handpainted shaving mug and GAR medal. Plenty more info if you are interested.
