Dyslexic Volunteers Needed For Dyslexia
Research Study
The project, Developmental Phonological Dyslexia: Neural
Mechanisms, headed by Dr. Richard E. Frye, M.D., Ph.D., F.A.A.P., of
the University of Texas, is looking for volunteers willing to participate in a
research study investigating brain activation patterns in the dyslexic brain
with non-invasive magnetic source imaging techniques. The aim of this
research study is to obtain a better understanding of the various ways
dyslexic brains process different types of words.
Participants, both with and without dyslexia, should be right-handed,
between the ages of 18-40 with no known history of psychiatric disorders.
After a brief screening questionnaire, selected participants will undergo an
evaluation of their IQ, language and attention skills. Brain imaging with
magnetoencephalography (MEG) and a magnetic resonance imaging
(MRI) scan will also be done. All testing will occur at the University of
Texas Health Science Center in Houston. Completion of all of the testing
will probably require return visits. There are no known risks associated
with this study, but individuals with claustrophobia could be uncomfortable
in the MRI scanner.
Participants will be compensated for their time and their parking expenses.
