Kelly I am so sorry that you are going through this. I felt this way at one point...in the beginning as well. The first piece of advice I can give you is to document everything. Keep a timeline from when everything started...the meetings, the converstaions, the phone calls...Try to get things in writing. If you teacher and school has email, voice your concern through an email. This is what happened to me...maybe it will help you too. I knew there was a problem when my son was in 3rd grade and kept verbally addressing the issue of speeling with his teacher. She kept dismissing it. In fourth grade I approached the teacher at the end of the 1st week of school. She could see the problem too. To make a long story short, the school completely blew it with the testing. Said that there was nothing wrong. His 4th grade teacher and myself new different ad his teacher encouraged me to go outside the school to have him tested. I did. He was diagnosed with dyslexia, dysgraphia, executive dysfunction and written expression discorder. I got the results in May and spoke with the guidance coundelor to try to get accommadations in place for 5th grade. She blew me off. I went to the board of education and asked for money(financial assistance) to send my son to a special school for average to above average children with dyslexia. I then went home and emailed the board of ed lady thanking her for meeting with me and discussing my request for financial assistance. I also asked her a question about a typing program she had mentioned because I wanted (needed) her to repsond to my email. She did. This was my first request and was the official 1st day that things actually started. I had to hire a special education attorney because I was seeking money from the school for totally misdiagnosing my son and not giving him any accommadations in the public school. My son is now back in public school receiving many accommadations and was also given one on one reading over the summer between 5th and 6th grade. You need to get things in writing...the denials, the refusals, You need to ask for accommadations in the emails. You need to also put in the email the fact that she is dyslexic and that they are not acknowledging the fact. Also, you need to publically tape record any IEP meetings. Also search for a special education attorney in your area and talk to them. Get outside testing done and ask the school system to pay for it. Google dyslexia accommadations and you will find a lot that might help your daughter. Good Luck. Don't give up and remember...you are the only one who will fight for your child...so do your best...she's worth it.
