Hi, first congratulation with finding something that works for your child. What is direct instruction? Is that one on one tutoring? What is the tutor doing that is so effective? I have recently taken my child out for half the day to home tutor her with the Barton reading and spelling program. The school was trying to accomodate her with a reasearch proven phonics program but it just wasn't working for her. I'm nervous but I've got to try. I would so appreciate if you could clue me in on what the tutor is doing. What state are you in? Maybe I could contact the tutor myself. As far as the school goes...I did my reasearch, they implemented what I asked, but there are a few other changes I'd like to see happen in the district. I joined a task force that is working on creating a direction for the district to go over the next 10 years. We'll see how that goes. I guess we just need to get involved as possible and bring along like minded individuals. Good luck!
