In all the research that I have done, dyslexic children do not respond to memorization that is why it is so important to get accomodations for them at school, such as you dictating thier answers and having spelling words that they can sound out or not to be graded on thier lists.
As far as the reading, I'm still trying to figure it out as I find that I go with the flow, if my son wants to read to me he will usually tell me the words he is not sure of and he may read the first sentence of a long page and then want me to read the rest. My goal, that he enjoy the reading process and that it is a fun experience,
