Karen ~ I have a short fuse with my son, but I am still successful in homeschooling him. You might consider looking into homeschool support groups where you live; I'm thinking you'll find that you are not alone. I've met many people in my same shoes over the years. Yes, my son and I do butt heads during parts of our schooling day, but having him homeschooled frees up lots more time for us to have quality time and actually enjoy each others company. If he was in school all day and then had to come home and do his homework, I'd never have time to enjoy being around him because of homework battles.
I have also been doing a lot of research over the last few weeks, and several times I have come across a website called Verticy Learning (http://www.verticylearning.org/about-verticy.html) that would basically give you the benefits of homeschooling while they direct your curriculum and issues with LD/Dyslexic children. This would save you buckloads of money, and you'd still be able to use tutors or enroll him in specialty programs occasionally if you wanted. The cost is between $1000-2000 thousand for a complete academic schoolyear. I don't know anyone who has used this, but it looks rather intriguing. I would love to try it myself if I had the funds, but I don't.
