Please consider taking your son to a developmental optometrist for an evaluation of his vision skills. It's quite likely that his eyes aren't functioning well together (even though he might have 20/20 vision) and that this is the main reason he doesn't like to read, or is having difficulty learning to read.
I've worked with over 200 kids as a phonics instructor and have found that most dyslexics I've encountered have undiagnosed (and untreated) vision deficits.
