This seems to be a consistent theme to all Dyslexic children. It's sad that the school systems don't realize what harm they are causing by not doing Early Intervention.
Texas has a 504 Plan, that is where Dyslexia falls it not under special Education but a separate plan. It is hard to get your child in the program until they are failing so bad that they are sad and a "Broken Child". You do have to fight and prove your point because it is also a money issue with the schools. Our School has a Dyslexic program which teaches the MTA dyslexia program. If you can get an outside specialist to diagnos your child with dyslexia that should help. My pediatrican sent us to a local tutor who is fabulous. And after 6 months of 4 hours a week he went from second grade 4 month level to third grade six month level in reading. Although the school still has him at the second grade level because of fluency (speed of reading ) and that may never grow to the level they expect. You need to read as much as you can and become an advocate for your child.
Texas schools are broken down to regional service centers and one of ours deals specifically with Dyslexia try lookin for information in your state.
