Hello All. You have all tried so very hard to advocate for your kids and really deserve more support than any of you are seeking.
I'm a semi-retired Spec Ed teacher with experience in six countries and see the same types of learning difficulties in all locations. What is clear to me is that every one of us is a unique bundle of neurology and physiology.
Teachers are trained to think along a 2-dimensional continuum. Kids are either "bright" or "dumb". So sad. It's all about the bell curve and where the kid's scores are. And this is not the fault of teachers. They are trained to think this way.
Science keeps finding more and more variation in human abilities and brain-wiring patterns and it seems what needs to happen is that the entire old schooling paradigm has to be re-thought.
Time to think of that bell curve as 3-dimensional - with an infinite number of skills assessed in isolation. Add to this the new stuff we're learning about individual eye and ear function, and it may just be that we are all headed back to home schooling of some kind. Designer education.
A new perspective sure would save a lot of heartache and frustration for both kids and parents.
Best wishes to all.
