Checked Linotype models and shipping dates - but as the Model 48 was English-made it is not referred to in the lists I have. The model 48 first appeared in 1935 and was a popular newspaper machine.
It may have originally been equipped with English-depth matrices - ideal for jobbing work.
Where I worked at the "N.Z. Herald" in 1956, the whole battery of some 60 machines was converted to American depth:
a huge job - new mould-wheels, moulds, pot adjustment - not to mention all the founts of matrices!
