Subject: Are you talking grades? It seems to me that most split grades about 25/26 there are only a couple I can think of that split higher. It would be nice though if there was a general “rule” as to splits - I believe other regions have that. Not sure about Champ splits

[> [> Sorry but that's ludicrous. Why not just give everyone a medal and save everyone time from competing. This is how dancers get into PC and then become stuck there for life. They race to get into PC with low splits, but don't have the skills to compete at that level. They continue to not place and then quit -- Gains nothing in the long run., 18:08:07 04/10/18 Tue (NoHost/204.80.213.163)

[> [> [> That's a bit much being that low- maybe an effort to attract attendees? If you are going to stand out in 7 you'll stand out in 14. If you are not good in 14, you won't be good in 7 and really stand out in less. The good will also really stand in 7. You'll most like win if you are best regardless of size. Also need to by way more awards -which increases feis cost. -- Not good, 15:12:29 04/11/18 Wed (132.sub-174-224-137.myvzw.com/174.224.137.132)

I respect a feis host's right to do splits at whatever number the school deems appropriate.

I also respect a school's (or parent's) decision to tell their dancers not to attend a feis with a low split or that a first place finish won't count. (Although it may be hard to reconcile that with the fact that in younger or older age groups, there may naturally be only 7 dancers.)

I think we can all agree that it is important to be supportive of the schools and organizations that are willing to do the work to put on a feis. Each school has its own culture and motivation for sponsoring a feis. For some, it may be to give more dancers the opportunity to experience some success. There are plenty of opportunities for hyper-competitive competitions in Irish Dance; I don't think there is any reason to criticize schools that are doing all the work to sponsor a feis for trying something different for those families and dancers who want a break from that.
