Cross Keys Monday night champ class is walking distance to the Rock Island 111th street Metra station (Chicago).

O'Hare at the Irish American Heritage Center is walking distance to the Montrose CTA Blue Line station and the Mayfair Metra station (Chicago).

Metra trains are safe and the riders are normal, but the platform can be lonely at night time. CTA Blue line station at night is pretty busy and seems safe. CTA will have more weirdos riding on it at all hours, but that's part of big city life.

I don't know much about Minneapolis/St. Paul, but a friend from there mentioned to me a few months ago how excited they are that they have light rail now. Chicago has had that for decades - so if public transit is important, Chicago is probably a better location.
