Subject: Trad Set awards - kids perspective
In reply to: 's message, "2017 Mid-America Oireachtas" on 08:44:40 11/27/17 Mon

I agree with your suggestions, mainly because of how my daughter felt as an awarded dancer in TS (this was our first O's btw). She was happy with how everything went at awards, until she watched the live feed of the solo dancers the next night from home. Then she felt slighted. She placed very high in her age group, but not high enough to get a boxed award.
I explained to her that TS was not the real reason O's are there and the focus is the solo dancers; also to consider how much more prep her friends that were solo dancers had to do, but it's hard for a child to understand that. Also, as a parent, I felt it was odd that there are two levels of awards at TS but all children get the same thing, perhaps a certificate in addition to the medal for "awarded" children. Otherwise, we had a wonderful first experience.

[> [> I think if trad set parents are willing to pay a bit more, to cover trophies instead of medals, perhaps small pw- like trophies for up to 10th or so. Clearly, the Added cost would come from the trad set entry fees. Photography this year was a big disappointment for all this year. -- No name, 17:46:33 11/28/17 Tue (99-157-233-123.lightspeed.motloh.sbcglobal.net/
