Subject: Small champ competitions not running concurrently in un-airconditioned rooms. Dancers vomiting and nearly fainting from heat and exhaustion. There's a reason the region requires 10 minutes between dances.
In reply to: Mom 's message, "Pittsburgh feis - inside" on 18:22:29 11/02/20 Mon

They could have had 718OC wait in the holding room while 719OC danced soft shoe then switched off and the same for the other champ comps. (They tried to run small OC comps non-concurrently at the Celtic Fling last year too, so this is not because of Covid) The $1.00 bottles of water the Feis promised were nowhere to be found (water fountains shut off due to Covid). Parents were trying to wait in the halls, but told to wait in the holding rooms so halls wouldn't get overcrowded. Then the same parents kicked out of the holding rooms. We weren't allowed in stage rooms unless our children were dancing. What the heck!? Honestly, we regret participating. This was unacceptable.

[> [> I'm not sure which feis this person attended, but there was no vomiting and fainting from heat exhaustion. I had multiple dancers in that room and saw no such thing! Sour grapes! -- MW mom, 17:09:40 11/03/20 Tue (ue.tmodns.net/172.58.200.152)

[> [> [> My daughter hit the floor hard, knocking over a chair in the orocess and vomited into her bag while down there and that was 718OC. I brought the issue up with the committee long before awards, so sorry, not sour grapes. -- Additionally, 18:32:03 11/03/20 Tue (cpe-65-189-55-125.cinci.res.rr.com/65.189.55.125)

My daughter threw up after nearly passing out after her third round. She went down so fast a chair flipped over. It would be kind of ridiculous to make that up considering there were plenty of people in the room. A dancer in 716OC had a similar issue, also vomited and was disqualified because she wasn't able to recover in time to do her set. Another dancer got sick in a third competition, as we overheard from one of the parents helping with awards and it was her child. You don't like reading it but this sure as heck isn't "sour grapes."

[> [> [> [> I will add, I stated heat AND exhaustion, not heat exhaustion. The first two comps one Stage 1 were very small (6 and 7 dancers) so Rounds 1,2 and 3 were bumper to bumper. -- --, 18:42:53 11/03/20 Tue (cpe-65-189-55-125.cinci.res.rr.com/65.189.55.125)

My kid was the one from 716OC, and I was the parent helping at awards. I never post on this board, but I feel the need to clarify. I will say it was hot in the room and the air conditioning could have been better, but my daughter getting sick was her own fault. She forgot to eat her breakfast because she was preoccupied practicing for the competition. She drank a bottle of water before going on stage and vomited after her second dance. This is not the fault of the feis, but of my daughter for not eating before dancing. She elected to remove herself from the set part of the competition. A difficult lesson to learn, but a lesson learned none-the less.

[> [> [> [> [> I hope she felt much better after eating something. My daughter made the same mistake several years ago and in hindsight, should have withdrawn from that competition. Hindsight, LOL! -- --, 16:15:25 11/04/20 Wed (cpe-65-189-55-125.cinci.res.rr.com/65.189.55.125)
