I’ve seen splits as low as 16 and as high as 30. Some regions don’t split at all and instead the number of dancers who advance is based on the size of the group (e.g. only first place moves up if there are 10 or fewer, first and second move up if there are 10 to 20 dancers, etc).

Some parents/schools/teachers are very anti-split. A dance parent once commented here that he/she didn’t think anything under 30 in a comp should count.

Given the absence of competitions in the past year, I’m all for low spilt numbers. There is a backlog of amazing dancers who deserve to be dancing t the next level.
